Tools and Resources for Utilizing SFCR

Preparing to Implement SFCR

A pre-planning phase is recommended for new providers interested in implementing SFCR.  This phase is designed to make sure that SFCR is an appropriate model for the provider organization and for the target population.  Organizations are asked to complete an Implementation Planning worksheet to facilitate this phase.  A SFCR Frequently Asked Questions is available to help guide this process.

Training to Implement SFCR

Formal training is required to implement SFCR.

Training for SFCR consists of formal didactics covering constructive family coping, traumatic stress, and intervention content delivered as a 2-day workshop.  All intervention methods and materials are presented in detail, including review of videotaped sessions, and rehearsal through role-plays. Facilitators also receive training on handling difficult situations that arise, specifically, how to assist any participant dealing with difficult emotions and to provide support and appropriate referrals to caregivers who request additional services for themselves, their children or their family.

For clinical facilitators, requirements for supervised experience with the SFCR include implementation of specific skill-building activities during the course of family therapy with 2-4 families. This allows them to try out materials and activities designed to improve understanding of and increase use of constructive coping in individual family therapy sessions and to monitor the success of these intervention techniques.

Finally, clinical facilitators should receive weekly supervision from supervisors and/or consultants who have advanced training and experience in implementing SCFR.

A 1-day training is available for facilitators who are joining already established facilitator teams conducting the MFG model.

An additional ½ day of training is available for facilitators who want advanced practice on supporting co-construction of family trauma narratives.
